CHURCH OF ST CROSS
CHURCH OF ST CROSS
Designed by renowned Victorian architect, William Butterfield, St Cross is a stunning church which is situated adjacent to Clayton Park and Clayton Hall in Clayton. It is only one and a half miles from Manchester city centre with easy access and good public transport links, with a Metrolink tram stop directly opposite the church.
St Cross offers worshippers a beautiful space in which to come together with others to be fed and transformed by Christ in Word and Sacrament. The pride we take in the beauty and splendour of our church building helps to orient us toward the beauty of the living God we worship. We offer a Sung Eucharist every Sunday morning at 10.30am and a Said Eucharist every Tuesday Morning at 10.30am. You can also join us for Evening Prayer on Tuesday Evening at 6pm. We offer a Sunday School every two weeks which is a lively, fun space for primary school aged children.
St Cross places great store by the many social activities that take place under the auspices of the church. These activities are always open to everyone, and they are many and varied. They include jumble sales, quiz nights, sponsored walks, trips to different places, dinners & suppers with different themes, afternoon Teas, Bring and Buys, Summer and Christmas Fairs.
St Cross has become famous in the local area for its Saturday Breakfast café which runs every Saturday from 9.30am -12.30pm.
St Cross works in close partnership with the Beacon Centre, a Community Hub which sits a two minutes’ walk away from the church. Led by the Rector of St Cross Church, eight local and community-minded individuals came together as Trustees to form The Beacon Centre CIO. The CIO was registered with the Charity Commission for England and Wales on the 13th December 2018. Since then, it worked tirelessly to raise more than £400,000 to repair the building and employ a Centre Manager. The building is now run as Community Hub and provides a welcoming and well-run space where different local partners can come together to offer a range of services including a Community Grocer, a range of fitness classes and social support groups.
