ST JAMES, GORTON
A friendly church in the heart of Gorton. All are welcome, whether you have a strong Christian faith, or are just starting to explore what faith in Jesus Christ might mean for you.
St James Church is situated in Gorton and part of the Gorton and Abbey Hey Team. St James has a strong history and is the third church to be built on near the site. The first church was built in the first half of the 15th Century. The current beautiful church was built in 1871.
As part of an ambitious re-ordering project the building has recently been completely electrically re-wired, and a new lighting system installed. St James has an ecumenical partnership with the Methodist Church and a Methodist Service is held the fourth Sunday of the month.
We are a welcoming church with a beautiful church which hopes to be ministering to the community for generations to come. We work well with the other church in our team Emmanuel Church and hold joint services on the fifth Sunday of the month and other Festival Services.
St James also has a Church School – St James Primary School, which we have a positive relationship with. The school holds various services in church during the year and the clergy help with assemblies in the school.
The Church Centre is used well next door for youth groups – Church Lads and Girl’s Brigade and Rainbows, Brownies, and Guides. The centre is also let out to a number of different organisations and private functions.

EMMANEUL, GORTON
A friendly, welcoming church in the heart of West Gorton. Consecrated in 1975, Emmanuel Gorton is the amalgamation of the 2 churches St Marks and All Saints, West Gorton and now part of a team with St James’, Gorton.
We meet every Sunday at 10:15 with varying services throughout the month. 1st Sunday of the month is All Age Worship, 2nd Sunday of the month is Holy Communion, 3rd Sunday of the month is Morning Prayer and 4th Sunday of the month is Holy Communion. If there are 5 Sundays in a month, we have a joint service with St James' at alternate churches.
We have a heart for our local community. On a Wednesday we have a Craft Club that make items for charities in the local community. We help support the community shop at the Beacon Centre, Clayton and at Christmas we support the Salvation Army with toys and gifts for those less fortunate than ourselves.
We also host a number of social activities throughout the year including our Summer and Christmas fayres and bingo and quiz nights throughout the year.
